In the months of May and June a dollar from every shirt purchased will go towards supporting my friend, Katie. Katie is going to Uganda for a year to be a part of New Hope Uganda. New Hope Uganda is a children's center for abandoned and orphaned Ugandan children. From its beginnings, New Hope Uganda has never had a shortage of orphans. There are many children who live on the grounds and many more that travel to be a part of the school. New Hope Uganda is helping to fill the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs of hundreds of orphans. Check out their website to learn how New Hope Uganda is helping and loving these children and learn how you can help. www.newhopeuganda.org

For the month of May, we have raised $20! Thank you to everyone who has purchased a shirt!

Love builds community, so let's start building! It can be as small as saying hi to a stranger on the street, giving food to a man who is holding a sign that says he is hungry, or as big as starting an after school program or a center for those in need.

Start talking to people. Everybody buys food, let us start there. If you shop at a grocery store, engage your checker in conversation. Call her by her name and ask her how she is doing. Listen to her answer. When she asks you how you are doing, respond honestly and avoid using programmed answers. This will become easier as time goes on and as you become more familiar with the checker. When you buy produce at a farmer's market (a very loving thing for your community) use a similar approach. No name tag for an ice breaker? Try asking about the produce, what to look for in the coming weeks, and where else they sell. By talking with people, learning stories stirs hearts. Once people start to care, community is well on its way.

I know many of these things come naturally for some people, but for me it does not. I am very introverted and quite content to interact on a superficial transaction level. It is easy for me to do just that, but it is very isolating and self-centered for me to do so. The more people I engage, the more people I care about. The more people I care about, the less focused I am on myself.

Love takes risk.

As Regina Spektor sings, "People are just people, they shouldn't make you nervous."

The next artist you all should check out gave up a career as a full time ninja to pursue music, or so she says. Molly Jenson has the quality of feeling so familiar, yet her music is unlike anything you've heard...uniquely Molly. It is as if she is singing my story, but better than I ever could, and in a way I never imagined. Contemplating what tomorrow holds, being consumed by thoughts of a stranger or a loved one, experiencing a day so fantastic and never wanting it to end...her story is my story. With a voice that can make a snarling panther purr, you have to see her live! Just don't heckle, unless you can sustain a round house kick to the face.
