The artist for this month is Dave Barnes. I love this guy and if you love good music, you will love him too. He conveys such deep emotion without sacrificing voice quality. His songs can pick you up, take you on a ride, and move you to tears. With the stunning good looks of a J. Crew model, the voice of...Dave, and the sense of humor that can result in abs of steel, Dave Barnes is sure to make his way into your music collection and into your heart. Check him out at davebarnes.com or http://www.myspace.com/davebarnes This month my love tip seems a bit odd. It is, "do something new." You might be thinking, "How will that help me love?" Well I'll tell you! When I do something new, I am put in a vulnerable position. I probably won't be very good at it at first, which keeps my ego in check. I have to learn to trust the person who is showing me and I have to be teachable, which require me to be both open and observant. All are things I can practice to help me love. Also when I try something new, I am introduced to a whole new group and type of people. I get to see the heart of experts as they pass on their knowledge and I am challenged to love them in their passion, even if I do not share the same interest. I often struggle with this especially when I meet men for the first time. The men in my social sphere tend to be, at first glance, rather, um, gooberish. I know it is wrong to label in this way, especially when I am supposed to be promoting love. But, like I said, I am human and I struggle. So when I find myself thinking such thoughts I stop and remind myself that somebody loves this guy. Whether it is his mom or (at least) Jesus, somebody loves him! And you know what? This guy loves someone else too and he gets fired up about stuff. Once I get that straight in my head, my eyes are opened and I find it harder to place that label back on him. That was probably sharing a bit too much about myself, but the bottom line is...doing something new is good practice in the skills of loving and you get to learn to love a whole new group of people!
