"Dear family, friends, acquaintances and colleagues, Many of you have been following our life's adventure while we have been stationed here in Lesotho. I know that many of you have read all of our blogs and looked at page after page of pictures. We want you to know that we really appreciate you taking the time out of your busy lives to read what is happening in ours. I have also received a fair amount of e-mails and letters asking what it is that you can do to help us while we are here. While we are doing fine, I am in desperate need to get one of my projects funded and underway. As many of you know, I work as a resource teacher for elementary (primary) schools here. I visit 2 schools every other week. One of my schools, Phechela Primary, has been around since the 1950's. It was started by the Roman Catholic Church and has been foundational in so many lives in my village. One of the difficulties of working in Lesotho has been that the basic needs are sometimes ignored. This school for example has experienced rebuff after rebuff for trying to get any assistance from the government for a new building. The last new building that they received was in 1985. The other buildings are as old as the mid-50's and do not look or feel suitable to be used as classes. My brother-in-law who served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Western Samoa commented while he was here that they had schools like the ones that our children attend in Samoa, it was just that they were abandoned. So you see we are in a desperate struggle eradicate this immediate need for my community. Therefore my community and I have put together a proposal to ask you all for funds to help us restore the existing buildings to a functional state. The improvements that we are looking at include new doors and windows, patching the leaks in the roof, fixing the cracks in the walls and the floors, buying new and reconditioning the old chalkboards, and installing coal fired stoves to keep the room warm in the bitter winter months. What I am asking for is simple, there are a few ways that you can help us out. 1) Go and check out the latest blog @ lifeofanominee.blogspot.com You can read about my first week back at school and the excitement that my school is feeling hearing that we are going to attempt to get them the facilities they need.2) Go to this link. There you can make a donation to the current project and get directly involved in changing the lives and school of an entire community. I really do appreciate you taking the time to read this really long e-mail. I know that for many of you times might be tight and you may not be able to give anything. I want you to know that we appreciate you just taking the time to read this e-mail and if you feel the need, drop me a line and let me know what is happening in your lives. Would love to hear from you and will attempt to respond to all e-mails sent to me. All the best, Jason S."
I have decided to make the remainder of the donations this year to that project. I hope you can get excited about being a part of something on the other side of the globe! I know I am. If you have any questions or would like to order some t-shirts... e-mail me at lynette@loveiswhereitsat.com Thanks for stopping by! Tell your friends! |
